hello guys, if u see the results, there are a total of 1 COP, 12 Bronzes, 6 Silvers, and 5 Golds out of 24 bands. which means half of the bands today got bronzes.

BUCK UP GUYS! lets really work hard. our senior got us 3 consecutive Golds alr, we mustn't let them down!

anyway don't get too affected from the results today as today is the first day of the SYF. who knows we might get Gold again? work hard, work hard. lets learn from the mistakes other band made and 'mould' ourselves to a better band! :)

work hard now, don't regret later.

if we really work together as a band, we'll definitely do it!

hello hello hello people!

i guess those who went for the band practice ytd enjoyed it! even though it was a short practice, i guess we've achieved our aim of making u guys bond and interact with each other. when it comes to games, u guys were suddenly so energetic and work very well with yr team, wanting to win the game.

SYF is just like that! urm, maybe not as 'fun' as captain's ball, but its all team-spirit! u must work together, as one band, to win the competition. i hope u get my point =]

10 MORE DAYS TO SYF! FEEL THE 'HEAT'! remember that the next SYF will be 2 years after this, what do u want the band to get? aim and achieve it! don't regret like what u did for NBC.

push yourself to the limits, and after the competition when u achieve what u want, u'll find everything u did previously for the competition all worthwhile :)

HELLO HELLO HELLO!!!

FINALLY, i can sign in to blogger! there was some problems i met 2 weeks ago that said that my cookies were disabled. i'm really bad when it comes to things about computer, actually i don't even know what those cookies it meant. =p

months had passed since i last updated. wasn't very free, i guess most of the sec 4s were also very busy, and i think they still are! 12 MORE BAND PRACTICES TO SYF 2007! sunrise was nice today, at least it sound more like a sun rising in singapore, which is what the song is all about! :) the sec 1s are doing a very good job under Mr Zhong, they managed to learn quite a few concert scales. aha, this means that the seniors must work even harder before the sec 1s start to catch up!!!

today's footdrills was a tough one ya? but i could see that the band is getting more united, continue to work harder as a band! :) it wasn't easy to run around with in such a big group, and in steps! not easy at all. but we did it, didn't we?

the sec 4s are gonna step down real soon! =( this coming SYF would be the last one for the Sec4s and ALSO, the sec 3s, and because of that, the more we must work hard to get Gold!

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.

anyway this coming week's band practices can be quite tough, having to come back for band every alternate day. however, i really hope that all of us can come for every band practice. with only 12 more band practices to SYF, every band practices seem so very precious and important all of the sudden. it could mean getting a Gold!

hello people!!!

this is the first post in this new year. new year means new beginning, new everything! ( not exactly though )

plan goals for this new year, that what is it that u want to achieve in this new year. and i hope that one of your new year's resolution is to get a Gold in the SYF this year and play well for the competition at Genting in December.

like what peishi and i have said earlier in the morning, WORK TOGETHER AND BE UNITED. Never forget our Motto of ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE. u can never get Gold for SYF if u're all selfish and think about yourself.

THERE MUST BE NO SELF-CENTERED PEOPLE IN THE BAND

u might be thinking that its hard to get GOLD, its not at all difficult if all of us are willing to work together and focus hard for the competition. i saw unity during the band camp when all the groups were workgin so hard to be the Best Group.

get my point?

anyway great job for attracting quite a number of sec 1s during the CCA promotion day. there were quite a number who were ex-band members, which is a good news! let's hope the school will post more sec 1s to band this year!

some sec 2s were trying out Canto. it's not that difficult and i hope we can do even better than what we did! and what's more its much easier than variations. but the thing is, u have to teach the sec 1s! this do not jus goes out to the sec 2s, but the WHOLE BAND!

thank God that we dont have common test anymore! this means more band practices!

still, study hard and balance between studies, band and play.

wheees! it's been centuries since i last blogged. tsk. ohgay, cheers!

hmm. firstly, ALOHA TO ALL! :D well, xmas is just over. i hope u ppl really enjoy your celebration w ur loved ones. haha. ohya, t add on, i hope all of u hav a great chill-out time during the 2-weeks break. yea, 2006 is ending soon. ohno, school's starting soon! lol.

anw, i know band practices hav been taking up almost the whole of our holidays. ohwell, trust me, work hard & it's worth while. SYF central judging'2007 is veh near us. the award we get will reflect on th amount of effort we put in. so each & everyone of you, encourage each other t work hard n improve ourselves. !! let us all work hand in hand tgt as a team towards our common goal. yes, time flies, before u realise, syf is just right in front of us. so, do not give up, but b determined t work towards it. besides, we're from dunearn, you see. "determined & disciplined".

yeaps. take note! there'll be sound check on the 3rd of january 2007. remind each other t bring the consent form. hmm. i can't really think of anymore stuffs to add on. yea, do rmb t do some studies for th coming 2007. haunt yourselves with incantation & dance plus sunrise. haha. all the best! :D

hello! i've been quite lazy lately - as in lazy to come online. so i haven't been updating this band blog much. and please, the sec 3s, feel free to blog ! especially people like Pei Rong, our dear treasurer!

yes we've seen how big Nicholas' breasts were, and how pretty Halim and Syibli were when they were all dressed up during the ROD night, and hey, those took up great courages ok! so let's give them a big BIG round of applause!

the band camp started off really tough with 10 rounds around the parade square for the sec 1s, 20 for sec 2s and us poor sec 3s had to run 30 rounds! yes! ever one of us endured and ran like some mad dogs. we thought it was impossible, still we did it! =D the best effort goes to Yanqing! and not forgetting those who encouraged her and told her not to give up, thank you! ( urm, i'm making it sound like it's some prize-giving ceremony and i'm thanking everyone )

the screams during treasure hunting were deafening! Ms Ho said that it was ear-splitting! and congrats to Coconut who found their Snapple bottle. speaking of Snapple, u guys protected it like some babies and u drank it all up on the last day of the camp. EVIL. alright, no link. =p

i guess most of us love whenever it was time for footdrills, when actually we were doing formation. totally opposite of last year's when many of us didn't like footdrills as it was pretty tough last year. even though it was an easy formation to do, i can see that most of us really focus and tried hard to remember the next steps and to coordinate with the people beside each one of us. great effort!

there's tooooooooooooo many things for me to type if i'm gonna list down each activity we do.

so many things happenened while i was away! anyway good job to u guys for making yr flags and banners in such a short period of time! dont forget yr cheers and yr dance/skit.... whatever it is to put up a show! through this camp i'll really hope to see band members to be more united!

its like the first time for the band members to have a 4 day band camp right? well like i always say, SYF is coming and pls practise really HARD, yes i mean H-A-R-D for the competition. remember the national band competition? it was a gd experience and i hope u guys wont forget that.

band camp is this monday! excited? its really fun to do all the banners and flags with yr grp members but dont forget, PLAY HARD, WORK HARD.

hey bandsmen!

its been a while since i last updated the blog due to NCO and i was a little busy. anyway the band did improved a lot! *applauses* Dunearnite is coming soon and i know those pieces are super easy, so play them well if that's the case!

i guess most of the sec 1s and 2s know their classes for next year by now. congrats to those who got into the class they have wished for, anyway to those who didnt get into your desired class, continue to work hard ya? DO NOT GIVE UP! =D

and im really glad that we managed to go through almost 2/3 of Incantation. The set piece for SYF will be here very soon, maybe late-nov or early dec. still, we have to try to finish up our Incantation b4 we proceed on to the set piece. tutors will be coming in very soon for almost every section and please learn as much as you can and apply it every band practices! attendance is very important now even though we still far from SYF but there's a lot we need to learn. now that we're more involved in the music area, i still hope that the band can be as disciplined as b4 alright?

there are many many programmes for us next yr like the band exchange programme with other schools and more, and so please look forward to all the events coming up!

the groupings for band camp is likely to be announced this week or the next, be sure to check out the notice board! ( heh i knw the sec 2s are kinda excited abt it! me too! =D )

HELLO ALL!

Band practice has resumed and it is obvious that its getting tougher now partially is because band camp is coming and we have to prepare for the formation we will be doing during the band camp, and also that SYF is coming ( just to remind u that!) oh before i forget, please ensure that you have a pencil for every band prac!

its the annual O level season when the sec 4s are having their exam, so it is likely that we won't be having sectionals as often as before. Still, brush up on yr skills! and do not roam around the block B area!

can't wait for band camp! anyway in the mean time, if u are very free, so think of some idea you wanna do for your group or something. Brainstorm earlier! Aim to have the best group or something.

Please be reminded to photocopy your result slip to mr yeo latest by this coming Friday. If u did not do well this time, aim to do better the next time! Never give up! Same thing applies when ure in the band.

oh we're having open house this saturday! Be sure to inform your parents about it! I'll update you guys abt the details soon! Please pay your band funds ya?

While Chung Cheng High School Concert Band are playing a wide repertoire of music, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) will be playing theme songs from movies. They'll be playing songs like Superman, Incredibles etc. The repertoire will be confirmed later. The concert will be held in their school at 730pm. Tickets are priced at $10.

EXAM'S OVER!

well, at least for me. i'm not sure about the lower secondary though. since those boring exams period were already over, ok, GOING TO, for some people. let's set our goals for SYF, N-O-W!

i guess what we're going to do for the coming band practices are to practice songs for Dunearnite and the open house for next year's sec 1s. hmm, speaking of sec 1s next year, i thought of the current sec 1s. HEY SEC 1S, ure going to be a senior next year! so improve on your playing skills ya? and yep the sec 2s too, gonna be sec 3s next yr, gotta work doubly hard! ahh, im sec 4 next yr, i feel very O-L-D! :(

i guess many of you didn't really practice on your instruments for a REAL long time alr, RIGHT? well, before the band practice starts next thurday, better work a little on your instru!

i really miss band practice and miss you guys a lot! even though i see you guys in school often. but i miss the band! haha.

ok enough of my crap, DO go through a little on Incantation ya? that's important u know? before we get to work on our set piece, make sure u can play the choice piece well. anyway it's not 100% that all the sec 1s will get to go for the SYF next yr, so if you wanna go, WORK HARD!

the next band prac will be on 19 october, which is next Thursday, and WHICH by then u'll knw all your results.

anyway people, good luck for your end of year examinations. refrain yourself from using the computer too much and study hard! it's the last examination of the year so do your best yeah? after the exams we'll definitely have lots of fun during the december band camp. so, look forward to it!

hey bandsmen!

how did u guys find Latin Favorites? It's a nice song isn't it. And it's not that difficult! Not as difficult as Incantation and Dance. Anyway i realised that many of you brought back your instruments last saturday but did not practise much! i know that school term jus started on monday and you guys can't really manage your time, especially when common test is just weeks away frm now. We seems to have a long time to prepare for SYF, but actually we DON'T.

Our band practices are really limited and i really hope that all of you can improve on your attendance. that's the very least u can do in order to do well for the competition. The National Band Competition was as a good experience, and im very sure we can do even better for SYF.

Incantation and Dance isn't such a bad song after all. It's another new kind of experience after Variations. We used to hate Variations ( some of us ), but we've improved after much practices on it! If we can learn Variations within such a short period of time, we can definitely learn and play Incantation even better as there's still some time before SYF. Like what Mr Yeo have said, you can never expect to achieve good result with last-minute preparation.

there won't be any band practices till the common test ends. anyway, good job on the performance yesterday! especially to the sec 1s, its not easy to memorise the parade pieces within a short period of time!

yup, common test is coming real soon. let's study hard! even though the competition, concert and the NDP are over, it doesn't mean that band practices are not important at all! be prepared for the trainings ahead. it won't be easy. ;)

hey guys!

we did a great job yesterday! both pieces!! colonel bogey was musical, as said by Mr Yeo. even though i don't know what he meant by musical, but whatever it is, it was fantastic!

Variations on a Korean Folk Song was good! Pei Rong and Justin did a wonderful job on their solo too! even though we only got Silver, it's not the end of the world. Remember we did our best and we did not have much time previously to practice due to limited practices. we only took about 2 months to practice for our competition and for first division, our chose piece had to be grade 4 and above. Variations on a Korean Folk isn't an easy piece, but we played it really well!

we gave in our best! we knew that.

hey, but still practice hard for your concert okay! haha, do not slack!

now let's sell all the tickets and do a good job for our concert. it is Mr Yeo's last performance with us, so let's make our concert a real good one!

it's less than 24 hrs to the competition. i know all of you are very VERY nervous. CALM DOWN ALRIGHT? there are so many band members with you, don't be afraid!

just keep in mind of what mr yeo had said today, about your dynamics and intonation problems. don't play too loud if you're not the melody, but don't play too soft either until you cannot be heard.

the MOST IMPORTANT thing, LOOK AT THE CONDUCTOR! when we're feeling nervous, we tend to rush our notes. look, after so many practices, all of us should be able to memorise our scores. so, please look at mr yeo! =D

tomorrow is the BIG DAY! give in your best shot so that you will not regret. we put in so much effort for this competition, so.. ALL THE BEST!

have an early rest today! drink lots and lots of water!!!!!!!!!

Guys, can u all show more commitment towards this band comp?

I think this comp will really decide the future directions of the band, whether it'll keep the standard, or go downslope.

I hope each and everyone can keep this 3 Practices in mind.

1st- Individual practice

Nothing can be done efficiently if each of u can't play ur notes well. Eg today the ww had to go thru the repeated semiquavers becuz there r some who can't get the notes rite, or rush a little making the ensemble sound not together. Yes, others might find it boring but tats the only way to train running notes for ww.

2nd- Sectional practice

Even after u have done ur own individual practice, u still have to blend with others around u, esp ur own section n part (Eg, 2nd clar, 3rd tpt etc.) in terms of sound, intonation, dynamics. Its never abt solo playing. If u wana be solo then maybe consider joining the Singapore Youth Orchestra.

3rd- Ensemble practice

That means playing together as an ensemble n when u have parts which r similar to another section, try and blend in with each other. If possible, find extra time outside band or during breaks to work things out. I think u can also call it some sort of inter-sectionals, where 2 sections work together.

Lastly, I wana say open ur ears guys. Listening to others while u r playing will have a great effect on the overall ensemble sound. U'll find urself more sensitive to dynamics, intonation and balance. Eg, in Korea Folksong there's a trumpet solo, please dun drown him, all those playing the accompaniment.

I wun be there for the exchange tmr due to SAF Band work commitments, but all the best. Do a gd show in front of Orchid Park. All the best!

hello all. i'm sure you guys would be rather surprised that i've actually written an entry in here. i don't know how to start actually but i'll try anyways. well firstly, i hope everyone has had a good holiday despite all your hectic schedules and stuffs. not being in the band for quite sometime has made me miss it already. haha. anyways, i've observed in one way or another that the band has actually managed to adapt to the current situation with the new leaders in charge. that's a good thing. i might be wrong about it. so, don't blame me! .

haha. i believe that the leaders have quite a good job in instilling the discipline and i'm sure most of them are trying hard to bring the band to greater heights too. so, continue to keep up the good work! . well, if you guys have observed, i've been coming back to band for quite a number of times already; to see how you guys are doing and also to do some assisting with the stuffs that i'm still "in-charge" of like the CCA website competition.

hmm .. National Band Competition is coming soon already. i hope you guys are really preparing for the competition. i'm sure there have been improvements in both your set and choice pieces, Colonel Bogey and Variations On A Korean Folk Song. however, in my opinion, i feel that the playing is still rather average. i'm not trying to bring you guys down or anything. but yeah, that's what i feel; judging from the few combine sessions that i've listened to. and i've heard some parts of your choice piece yesterday when i came back for a visit. in some way or another, i still feel that you guys have not worked hard enough and give it your all. and mr yeo even had to ask you guys to really focus and concentrate during combine sessions. hmm.. i'm not trying to be some critic here but yeah. i hope you guys get what i mean.

i'm sure everyone will be saying like, "oh, i've already tried my best what. what do you expect me to do if my skills are lousy?", or something equivalent to that. haha, i'm sure you guys know the word practise. so, you guys should really work hard for the competition in order to achieve success. and i'm not saying that everyone didn't put in effort. but rather, its more to working hard and trying to achieve the best out of what can be done. as it has been said in previous posts, everyone has to work together in order to achieve something fruitful.

remember the band motto, "All For One, One For All" and peishi's acronym of TEAM[Together Everyone Achieves More] . think about it okay? i don't want to say too much here. but i really hope that the band give their best effort to the few practices before NBC.

okay lah, i don't want to be such a nag. haha, who am i to comment anyway? all i have to say is, persevere and work hard during these last few practices for your upcoming competition to achieve success! all the best for the competition! i'll see you guys again sometime (:

Remember the band motto, " All for one, one for all"

A band is never just about 1 person, its abt a group of people, working hard for their dreams, their goals.

One may think "4 yrs only what, what's there to work so hard for in the band?"

I can tell u from an alumni's point of view, this 4 yrs are the crucial time that will set a definite pathway for ur life and how u grow up to be a person in the future. Before u know it, the 4 yrs will just fly past u..

Till today I've not regretted joining DMB in 1995 (yes u can guess my age haha...)

The sense of belonging will definitely be with u when u leave sch or DMB. Imagine few yrs down and u hear DMB getting top 10 band award in Singapore (wish very very very hard then maybe got chance...), won't u have this special happiness and feeling proud, "Hey I'm from DMB, I'm so proud its top 10 band in Singapore!"

Each and everyone plays an equally important role in making the band sound good. Not just the conductor, the teachers, ur seniors, alumnis, or tutors.

Imagine when the year Mr Lee took us, if the seniors didn't work hard, there's no way that DMB would have achieved results.

Yes, there may be times u'll wana skip band on pretext of homework, but think abt it b4 u skip band next time. Doesn't ur friends, section-mates, juniors have homework too? And if u know there's band on Sat try not to arrange anything on Sat. Minus away public holidays and exams/test periods where there's no band prac, out of 52 Sats I think u'll only have abt 25 Sats a year for ur band practices. Think twice b4 skipping band on Sats.

Pls work hard for band n equally for ur STUDIES so tat the principal won't be able to find fault with the band!

The Nation Band Comp is abt 2 weeks away and I hope u guys can really work hard and perform miracles like ur seniors did.
No matter what the sch teachers wana term the band as, do ur best and prove them wrong!!!

DMB is a place of music making and friendship, not a place for training funeral bands. Treasure the time spent in DMB, may it be good or bad (oh my, how can I forget the times we did abt 200 plus push-ups in 1998, all thanks to Mr Yeo!!!)

the main band is getting better and better now! Variations on Korean Folk Song isn't easy. but rmb, COUNT. it's very important! and now we're doing a lot of stuff on Variations, but don't forget Colonel Bogey, do practice it too!

emrx.. im nortx writing to tell you to pay the band fund.. but to clarify some things with u guys..

u are not needed to pay band fund every practice.. i onli collect band fund once a month.. the fee is $2.. if u do not want to be chased everytime for the band fund.. i hope that u guys can cooperate and pay once i announce to the band.. this way.. we have no misunderstandings with each other.. i noe some ppl may think that they have over paid the band fund.. but not to worry.. i oni collect every last week of the month.. which is to say.. u guys have to pay the band fund soon.. i'll inform u guys kays??

HEY.
yesterday's chalet was quite fun dont you think?
the only prob was that it was lacking of more present dmb members.
it would be nice to see everybody mixing with the alumnis.
this can increase the bond between everyone.

even so, yesterday was still quite a success seeing that the few of us still had lots of fun together with the alumnis.
like how we played the guessing game and the person who guess the correct number had to drink one of the two drinks placed before us.
alumnis, vodka and the juniors, plain water.
and charlene even manage to be drunk despite drinkin plain water!
haha.

we got separated when some of them decided to bbq and the rest of us just laze ard inside the room, crapping.
next we headed to cheers to get more marshmallows for the bbq.
not long after we headed home.

this is my version of the chalet yesterday.(:

and this hols let's all buck up and work harder for the competition.
we must make this competition a success people.
as what mr yeo said, it is only a warm up to the SYF 2007.
let's not let mr yeo down!

hey guys. argh, i wrote a post ytd lah, but because of some stuff, my com was hanged and didn't managed to publish the post i typed ytd.

firstly, the band practice yesterday was not at all fruitful. well, there wasn't enough time due to the sec 4s english oral. the playing wasn't good, can't be helped too. it's was because of the examinations and we had the real long break. and most of you might hav forgotten your embouchure and stuff. but i hope there'll be improvements in the next band practice. always remember that there must be a 'balance' in the music. as in, the lower brasses and woodwind must always be heard and stuff. Mr Yeo always emphasises on that.

please take note of the dynamics too!

the competition is just a few mths away. but the practices we are going to have are VERY LIMITED. like what mr yeo have said, let's all just buck up alright? please do not wait till it's just like 3 practices away and you try to sound like some professionals. it's impossible! but it'll be possible if you try to improve NOW and if you're unsure, always ask the seniors. do not hesistate to ask mr yeo too!

i know some of you are not very happy with the punishments, as in you did help with the clearing up, but many of them did not. see the word ' ALL FOR ONE, ONE FOR ALL? ' clearing up should be the whole band's duty. i saw many ppl outside the band room STONING. yes stoning, like a statue. please, if u are unsure of what to do. always ask! ask the seniors, ask your friends. we must always work together! always initiate too!

and guys please rmb to pay up your $2 band fund to Pei Rong! All band fund are to be paid up by friday, any later pls pay a dollar more. =] and PLEASE tuck in your shirt too, like what i've said last saturday, attire is very important! it shows others how discplined the band is. if the UMs and majors happen to catch you not tucking in, haha, pls pay $0.50 to the treasurer. You SHOULD know by now that you HAVE to tuck in.

anyway the band practice on saturday wasn't good. most of us didn't do sectionals. saw a lot of people walking around, or were watching the D'gig audition. Sectionals are meant for you playing with your section, improve in your skills. action speaks louder than words. don't just say u'll do it and in the end there's no results and improvement at all.

always unite as one. stop sounding so sleepy! always shout loud, it just shows how united DMB is. we ARE dunearn M-I-L-I-T-A-R-Y band. NOT a concert band, neither a symphonic band, BUT a MILITARY band!

have the basic discipline a military band should possess.

and yes, know when to have fun! it would be boring if the band practices are stagnant and still, playing the same old piece again and again. but a true musician would be able to make band practices fun and worthwhile. all of us are in DMB, that makes us a musician.

but the question is :
are u behaving like a TRUE musician?

ask yourself this and think about it ! ! =D

yuan chuan here...i really MISS all the sec 4s
BuT we have accept the fact that they have to step down...
without them doesnt mean tt the band is going to vanish...i hope everyone in the band can cooperate with us..plz..i really do..
It does a lot of help to the band if everyone is willingly to be united..and there are 2 main things that will happen to the band.
Firstly:our band will be disciplined and being disciplined means we will take our actions seriously...giving thoughts b4 we do anything...and we will know wad is right and wad is wrong...we will respect each other
(in other words..we are growing more matured)
Ppl being hardworking is one of the things i dont oftenly see in the band..especially during sectionals..the meaning of sectional is to practice our music,AND PRACTICE THOSE BARS THAT WE ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH..wad for if you all keep playing the same part,you still cant finish the whole piece completely!! i mean it!
Secondly:we can achieved great things if we work together..everything we do will be successful..well not total success..but at least it will meet the expectations that the band want..for example the s'pore youth festival,band camps,band exchanges
THERE IS ACTUALLY ONE MORE THING TT WILL HAPPEN TOOO..but we have to make sure the first two things happen first...then the last one will emerged on its own..mark my words!!! =)

first of all, congrats to those sec 3s who gotta the posts.
and for those who dont have, dont be sad.
you guys can still do a part of the band.

sat's practice is kind of okay and the footdrills wasnt that bad.
but i heard some rumours going around that peishi's kind of strict.
well, she should be strict so that our discipline would turn for the better.
after a while, everybody will just get use to it! =)

as what carol said, i hope the juniors will not take advantage of the seniors.
the sec 3s may be new to the posts but the juniors should still RESPECT us too.

if you guys want people to respect you, pls respect the others.

well, this is all i have to say.
let's all work hard together for the competition and strive for greater heights!

this is my first post. anw, first thing first.

1. today is my first tme taking over the band. n im here to apologise if anyone of u think that im over strict?

2. i hope to get all of your cooperation, n work together. trainings can be hard, but all u need is endurance n perserverance. ppl! HAV THE "NEVER SAY DIE" MENTALITY~!

3. please encourage ur peers n juniors. motivate them to do well, play well n enjoy band practices.

4. bandmates!! ask ur frens, ur parents, ur siblings, ur cousins, in fact, everyone u noe to go for the mini concert by our lovely sec ones! support them!! (:

hey fellow band mates, it's my first post to write as a major. it's pretty stress to see under the names of the blog and there it says 'blog maintained by carol'. i'll be giving out the user and password to the sec 3s soon and those who are good at doing some blog stuff will be made as the blog moderators. it's ok if u don't know about blog, 'cos I myself don't know much too. i need a helper!

congratulations to all other sec 3s and i hope together we can bring the band to a greater height. the band cannot do with just the 4 majors, or just with the commitee members. we need cooperation from ALL BAND MEMBERS. it doesn't mean that if you are a sec 1, you cannot contribute to the band. contribute by being cooperative and supportive. support one another, that's the most important thing. the sec 4s have stepped down, i know it's really sad to see them leave. it'll be even sadder to see the band die. what's more, if Mr Yeo gets his scholarship, another conductor will be taking us.

we must always be prepared for things like that. we cannot be selfish and beg Mr Yeo to stay if he gets the scholarship. we must be brave and strong. ok i may seem to exaggerate but it's true! don't care abt what Li Ao says that we Singapore are stupid and can only survive in a team or group. just like doing a projectwork, you team is sure to lose if they do not cooperate and your team does not have teamwork. what's more, the band has 76 members! this means we have to be more united!

always think of the band as a whole, not just your group or just yourself.

and to the sec 2s and 1s, please show respect to your seniors and don't take advantages of them ya? haha. know when to play and when not to. alright?

i hope we can have the cooperation from all you guys, and let's polish our discipline. seriously speaking, discipline is the root of everything in a band. especially to a military band. things like punctuality, attire and attitude are such examples of discipline. our discipline is not that good, but we CAN make our discipline good - by being cooperative and supportive.

okay in general, its been a great year with all of you guys.despite the downs, (mr and mrs chua leaving), we've still got the ups (larger intake of sec1s etc.) and wads important that the ups gotta keep increasing ya?and yup gotta face reality here, that if you guys want the band to survive, you all got to really work hard TOGETHER.its not that easy to kill the DMB spirit. yesterday the sec 1s sat for their test and so glad that most of them passed! to those who have failed the test, do not feel despair! always ask your seniors for help, that's what seniors are for. maybe you all feel nervous and play wrong note and stuff, but take that as an experience. congratulations to those who've passed the test and please continue to work hard ok?

mr yeo said we were improving for Colonel Bogey and still there is room for improvement. the National Band Competition is important and i hope all of us can take it seriously. we must show the seniors that we can do better even if they are gone. even though there are many very good bands competing with us, but let's aim for gold or something better than that! of course we need to put in effort in order to get a gold award. speech day is approaching and the sec 4s will be stepping down, really hope that we sec 3s can bring the band to a greater height. people always say that DMB's standard is dropping, i know that DMB can prove them wrong! and show that we can do better! rani had said that Overture Jubiloso and Hawaii Five 'O were not well-played. i know that speech day is a real boring stuff as the band is like playing the same old pieces year after year. but im sure all of us should be able to play Overture Jubiloso well by now and Hawaii Five 'O shouldn't be that hard to play. Monday would somehow be the second last practice for the seniors, let's us play the pieces well. i don't think the sec4s will step down in peace if they see the band in such a horrible state.

seriously speaking, the sec1s this year are learning fast and they can even shout louder than us, as their seniors, we should do better than them since we've been in the band for such a long time.

my turn to post ! haha. ok , Speech Day will be the last performance that we sec 4s will be performing with the rest of the band. but for some of us we`re still going to be playing for the July Band Competition so we`ll still be partially with the band. to the sec 3s please do a good job after you guys take over k , the future of the band depends on you ! make the band fun and disciplined. bond more with everyone ! cosh we shouldn`t restrict ourselves to only being super close to our own section mates eh ? er , Speech Day rehearsal that day was quite ok i guess cosh im standing in between so many booms and crashes from my section that i can only hear abit of what the band is playing. Lol , work hard on Overture Jubiloso ! its abit messy and some sections aren`t really following the conducting so you guys have to work harder yea. and make sure you earn the respect from your juniors so that they`ll respect you ! but if they still don`t , then .. that will be a different story altogether. jia you everyone ! =B

hey guys, it's carol here. wah, my very first post in dunearn military band's blog. well i'm the so-called moderator here and the rest of the sec 3s will get the username and password when the sec 4s step down. ( as said by rani )

it's great to see the seniors bonding with the juniors, especially the 'babies' of the band, the sec 1s. they are really noisy but they bring life to the band lah. and i've come to realise that this blog is not stagnant at all, it's just that not many ppl knows about this blog! so can the seniors who knows about this blog spread to your juniors? it serves as a 'notice board' for future purposes.

Yuting is taking charge of the band notice board now and if any of you have some great suggestion or what please approach yuting and tell her about it. we must have the bestest notice board! jk! currently the school is organising some website competition thingy and Noella is the in-charge of it. Charlene, Nadzirah, Peishi and I are involved with it too. we're desperate for ideas, ok, not exactly desperate, but we need some good suggestions. whoever know anything know IT and stuff, please approach us and tell us about your great idea ya? if we manage to win, the first prize is $1000 dollar! although winning is not the most important thing, we can actually try and grab this opportunity and interact with one another.

the band can only improve and achieve better results from the cooperation from each individuals.

to the sec 02s :
the same goes to the sec 02s .. work harder to improve the band alritee ? . contribute as much as you can to the band . i can see that some of you have the band's future at heart . and i know you guys care about the band . so, please put in the effort to keep the band's standard up :)

to the sec 03s :
as you guys have observed , there were changes here and there during band practices and slight changes in the blog itself ; like the new song player and all . we've been putting sec 03s on trial for the fall-in and stuffs alike . well, i have to say it's not too bad . but well, there are room for improvements yeah . what's important is your time management and of course, your work effiency . as future leaders of the band, time is important . do not keep others waiting for you to make decisions because they would not like it , seriously speaking . i know its quite tough to be handling something in which you guys know nothing about but that was the feeling we had last time too ; when the previous sec 04s passed down duties to us . so now, its your turn to learn about leadership and all . you might say that you are inexperienced in these areas . so, its time to develop your skills and maximise your potential ! . seriously speaking, i believe that each and everyone of you has the potential to bring the band to greater heights . its just that most of you have not realised your potential and maximised it yet . as to what huzaifah has said , ' All Of You Can Do It ' . i totally agree with him . and to emphasize on what was said in the previous post , confidence is important no matter what . yupp . so, i hope that all of you will be able to cooperate with each other in times to come . although it might not seem so easy at first but still , try to get used to it okay ? . speech day's coming soon and i'd really want this event to be a very meaningful one because it would be my last time with you guys . so, please give me your best yeah ..

to the sec 04s :
it has been great working with you guys ; especially the committee members and all the section leaders . i certainly have learnt a lot from each and everyone of you . from all the conflicts that have arised , i'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to each and everyone of you if my words had been harsh and if i've offended you in anyway . just want you guys to know that these words were unintentional, alrite . i've totally enjoyed myself with your company ; band camps and other events that we took part in like SYF and Balloon Hat Festival . the time for us to step down from the band will be coming soon . and who knows, we might not even be interacting with each other as often as we did after we step down in preparation for Os . to those who will be taking part in the competition, good luck to you guys yeah . you can do it ! . ahha . i hope that the bond we've made in band stays on for as long as it can yeah .

i'd like to wish the band all the best for the coming competition in july . must make me proud alritee ? . because the competition is one day after my birthday ! . ahha . so, please give me a good present by doing your best . lol . work hard and achieve the best results . but please, have a balance between studies and band too . academics is important too . yupp .

overall, i think that the practice was alright . i've observed that you guys have made improvements in terms of sound and tuning wise . do continue to keep up with the good work and of course, improve yourself in every other way you can :) . must have confidence ! . ahha .

hello people ! Carol keep bugging me to post cosh the blog is DEAD. lol ! ok. last Sat our sec 1s came for practice, they footdrilled like birdshit (good enough for 1st time) , so thats where you guys have to help them not to become birdies ! and Symphonic Overture is a great song so work hard for it yea. hahaha , although the sight reading wasn`t very successful and the whole song sounds empty its ok lah. we are still a baby chaoyang band. anyway , please spread to your sec 1s that this DMB blog does exist ok. if not they like don`t know the band got no blog and no friendster then they think our band like boring which is definitely not true. haha ! ok lah, can see many of the sec 1s really learn fast. so try to concentrate more on their playing skills k. and if you all didn`t realise , DSS is becoming more like primary school you know ? when all the sec 1s come to canteen eat without the upper sec around its like our canteen = tuckshop and you`ll see them playing catching and power rangers. LOL ! so people please make your sec 1s tough enough to endure footdrills and also make them have a GOOD sense of rhythm cosh some of them really need alot of proper training. most important point is NOT to teach them the wrong things ok. thats all for this post , people please start visiting the band blog frequently and make more comments ! =B

Hello band members.... since the blog is kinda stagnant, i decided to post sumtin as i got nothing to do for the moment. Anyways, i think the Speech Day Rehearsal is not confirm yet.. because i didn't heard any single stuffs which is related to the event.. so i dun think a rehearsal will be held this Thursday.. so just look out for announcements ok?? Well, for ur info.. the sec 1s will be coming on Saturday's practices with the effect from 26th Feb!! =D I hope all of u are enthu about it.. By the way, please give support to them and show them how the band is like during the usual Saturday practices. Even though they do not know a single thing about footdrills, we are the ones who should motivate them as a senior by showing good examples. Anyways, this actually does not apply only during the presence of sec 1s, but then everytime during band... especially sec 3s.. all of you are going to be the one who is leading the band soon. It's up to u guys n girls to make it a memorable one or a disaster.. Well...Always look on the bright side k?? in accordance to amanda's post, the blog is REALLY rather stagnant . so start spreading around the news like you guys used to spread rumours last time . spread it like wildfire ! . alumnis coming back . all the more you guys should learn from them ; basics especially . as for the audition for the competition , i'm not that well informed . so, i don't know much . i think our band's standard and reputation is not that good . can be considered a developing band . so, you guys MUST make it a practice to take out whatever scores in your section library to sight read during your free time . as for playing wise , i know its hard to play well but just try your best and eventually you'll make it . improve yourself as much as possible . remember to ALWAYS start with your basics . that is also why warm ups are important to have good sound . YES . so don't complain about warm ups okay . i didn't like doing it last time but i realised that warm ups benefit me after having gone through them so much . footdrills are fun too . yes, they improve your self discipline . i hope you guys don't see footdrills as something torturing, even though it is tormenting sometimes . i'm sure you guys want the band do something nice for speech day or something . the band chalet thing , we'll hafta confirm about it first . and please , NO SPOILSPORTS . hope the whole band can work hard musically and when doing footdrills . haha . i want to see formations being done for one of the events okay ? . okay . i shan't blog any further . do watch out for more updates/entries here . have a nice day =)

i would just like to post a question to you people reading this post. where do you think our band standard is now ? even with those pretty and shiny gold medals we obtain at SYFs , its only for two songs at that moment. our current band standard might not even match up to some primary school bands who can even sight read or even play better than us. machiam we are like some cute little chaoyang baby trying to stand on its own two feet with the chaoyang master trying very hard to help us keep our balance , but we are not working hard enough to stand up. luckily , we are gradually improving every practice ! so don`t stop practising and keep up the good work people ! and please enjoy your footdrills cosh they help you have more discipline and lose weight too :D

er , who wants a band chalet or anything ? i don`t want any wet blankets to keep saying "if no one go then i don`t go" cosh if you people don`t go then seriously who will be the people who are there so that you guys will go ? so please reply in the tagboard or something ok. maybe we`ll put a haloscan in the blog soon. and uh , work hard to get into the special unit force squad so that you people can enjoy doing those formations with the small group of people you saw today. they`ve already started to turn 360 degrees while marching but we`re still doing our basics. they look pretty impressive from far eh ? :)

Hello everyone. The next band practice is on Thursday, 2nd February 2006. It's for the sec 1s ONLY . the main band SHOULD BE having sectionals. With effect from the next practice, only the section leaders are allowed to be with the sec 1s. For the others, all of you are supposed to be having sectionals with your section members . Section representative[s] will be taking over for sectionals . So, to all section leaders, please assign a member in your section to handle sectionals . By the next practice, both drum majors will be patrolling around the school to make sure that everything is in order and is running smoothly. The Recruit i/c will be in charge of the sec 1's attendance. So, NO main band members are allowed to be inside the music room EXCEPT when taking stands and the Section Leaders from 4pm till 545pm. If we find out that a section is disorganised or undisciplined during sectionals, punishments will be given on the spot. Section representative[s] will get double. Discipline must be maintained at all times, just like in official band practices. to all Section QMs, please inform Zhi Yin on the serial number of the instruments that the sec 1s are using BY THIS THURSDAY. Sections which do not have enough instruments for the recruits, do inform Zhi Yin also . All Sec 3s are to meet the majors at the concourse on Wednesday during recess for a short briefing. Please spread the message to the others. I'll stop here for now. Look out for more announcements! =D

hmm .. this blog has been rather stagnant . well, i guess probably because there's really nothing much to blog about . i don't even know why i initiated such a blog in the first place . initially, i thought that it was a good idea because most of the bandmates are usually online and all ; implying that with the band blog , they can actually get to interact . but well , judging from the way it seems, it doesn't change much of the reality that the most of the members don't even bother to interact . probably i'll close the band blog soon . everything's like so out of place ; disorganised . i was thinking about this too .. what if i had already stepped down from the band ? . am i still the one who'll be maintaining the well being of the blog ? . well, of course not . so, i guess sooner or later , this blog will have to close down . you see . even the tagboard's gone haywire . i was actually expecting people to ask me the username and password of this blog so that they can at least blog about something . but well, it proved to be different . i bet some don't even know that this blog exists . okay lah. i seriously have nothing to blog about here . lets just await the closure of this blog ..

NOTICE TO ALL DMB MEMBERS / ALUMNIS:

There will be a DMB reunion dinner organised by the DMB ClubHouse at the Bukit Batok CDANS Chalet on 21st January 2006 [Saturday]. The steamboat dinner will start at about 8pm , and its 10 bucks per person. The chalet will be until the next day , so ALL MEMBERS are encouraged to go after band on that day ! For more information , please tag at the tagboard. And For those who are going , please inform either Abu[Drum Major] or Marcus[Alumni] by 19th January 2006 [Thursday] and pay the 10 bucks to Marcus when you go for the steamboat on that day. thanks ! :D

hello bandmates . i'm here to blog again . hmm . it seems that this blog is rather stagnant eh ? . maybe i should consider giving the username and password to some of you ; to make this blog more lively , with more comments too . i mean . i can't be the only person blogging everytime because after all , i'm not the only person in the band . hmm . these few practices seemed okay , although friday's one was a bit disappointing because not many came . brass sectionals , i'm not too sure what happened . woodwind sectionals was not too bad . but i still can't hear much . needs more projection of sound , especially lower woodwinds . take note of intonation for flute and oboe . clarinets need balance ; more support from 2nds & 3rds . 1st just need to take care of intonation . yeah . continuing the practice on saturday . basic formation drills uh ? . i thought it was fun doing them . but there's just no FOCUS . so, it beats the purpose of having good formation skills . didn't know what really happened after the break because i was at the Meet-The-Parents session thingy . so, maybe some of you could enlighten me on that . went in for combined practice and i found out that Howl's Moving Castle was not bad after all . but still, there's room for improvement . for Overture Jubiloso , still not as good yet because i think that there's a slight imbalance at certain parts . lower woodwinds was superb . well done . finally i can hear what they are playing , especially bassoons . WHEEE . euphoniums and trombones can probably come out more if they have the melody . higher woodwinds ; please work on your intonation and running notes . yeah . so, i hope that there will be improvements in these areas . your soon-to-be sec 01 juniors should be coming on thursday . so, please help to make them feel more welcomed in band . THREATEN or BRIBE THEM IF YOU MUST . haha . kidding lah . lols . but yeah , the main thing is to try and get as many people in band . hope that the number will be as what we expected or maybe even more . even if we get a lesser number , don't be disheartened by it. sometimes, we just have to make do with it . yeah . anyways, anyone care to update about Anglican's concert ? . please tell me if you do or want to update . that would be all for now . i'll update another time . just another announcement i'd like to make . Amanda will be one of the webmasters of the blog too . yeah . okay . i'll see you guys around in school or something , or the next band practice . CYA .

CCA Promotion Day

Hey everyone. It's been a good week for Dunearn Military Band. For the CCA PROMOTION DAY, we succesfully got a total of 90 sec 1 students (out of 320) to register on becoming part of the family. It was an overwhelming response. It's was a very good job done by everyone although a few of the members are making noise outside the staff room. Although it may irritate the teachers, it surely attracted lots of pupils. Right now we are trying hard to beat the recruitment record of 60 pupils. So band members, we can do it! By the way, the 90 students are not confirmed in joining band yet. The least is half of them and 45 is already a good number. Besides that, we already got 2 members to be part of DMB! The 1st one is a band member from Greenridge Secondary School and she is a Saxophone player. The 2nd person is a sec 2 guy and he is now posted to percussion section.(not confirmed) Well, good luck to both of you!!

The band practice on Saturday was a good one too. A footdrill session was held at the parade square and our conductor Mr Louis Yeo introduce us on doing formation. Most of the members enjoyed the session and are looking forward for more.(Too bad for those who missed it)After that we had warm ups and then a 30 mins break and it's combine time. Overture Jubiloso sounds better than usual as we work on into the details of the song. Everyone was in a good mood today and everyone left the music room after band practice smiling. Mr Yeo announced to us that he is trying to negotiate with the school about having concert at the end of the year. For now, there are at least a few events to get ready. Examples are: guest band performance with CHIJ Sec Sch Band, Band Competition,National Day,etc. Let's hope that the band continues to work hard and really put up a great performance. And let's make the sec 1s not feeling regretful in joining band too! We can do it! If we believe...

hey people . here are the details of the our coming event .

CCA promotion day 2006

6th january 2006
dunearn secondary school concourse (back side)
2:30pm-5:30pm

you people are supposed to fall in at 01pm . you're to be attired in your half band uniform after fall out . you are to be ready in your full uniform by 0245pm and settle down at our performance area . warm ups will be taken by huzaifah . the repertoire for the event is already up on the notice board . all librarians are to prepare the scores for the upcoming event . anyways, there would be a CCA briefing in the morning . probably tuesday or wednesday . but yeah, do look out for announcements . we'll update you more on what's happening next time . that would be all for now until further notice . thanks .
